Savor Morocco Cooking School

There is a great cooking school just a bit down the road from Fes called Savor Morocco in Meknes. I took my wife and mother to the school last Spring and it was a great experience for my Mom to learn more about Moroccan culture, cooking and eat some really great food.

Chris, the owner has renovated a house in Meknes which one day will be a guest house. For now, he has brought in cooking stations and Moroccan teachers to teach tourists about Moroccan cooking.

My experience was like this- when we arrived Chris greeted us and took us to the Savor house. There he introducted to our Moroccan teacher, a local university student who spoke really good English and talked with us about Moroccan customs and traditions while we ate Moroccan cookies and drank tea.

After a bit, she escorted us to the cooking stations and taught us how to cook an eggplant salad and later a chicken apricot tagine. I am not much of a cook, but the class made me feel like one and after we cooked everything we got to sample our creations.

As I said, my Mom had a great time and it was a perfect connection point for her with Moroccan culture and lifestyle.

Chopping it Up!

Chris can customize the class to include carriage rides through the city, various menus and levels of difficulty as well as time of the class. The thing that I liked was the fact that the cooking equipment that we used was very nice and allowed us each to cook our own dish.
